Swardeston Cricket Club bring home second place from the National Twenty20 competition
Leathes Prior travelled to Derby 3aaa County Ground yesterday (Sunday 16th September) to support Swardeston CC as the club battled it out in the Vitality Club Twenty20 final. As main club sponsors, the firm provided a coach so that staff and Swardeston supporters could make the trip up together.
Although they came extremely close to the top spot, the team left Derby having secured second place, losing by three balls to Hanging Heaton CC.
Without skipper Joe Gatting, due to illness, Mark Thomas led the side through the semi-final against Nantwich. Swardeston CC made a colossal total of 212-4 mainly down to Lewis Denmark who scored a magnificent 122 off only 56 balls supported by Stephen Gray (21) and Leathes Prior’s very own Peter Lambert (46). They then restricted Nantwich CC to 165-5 with Callum Taylor finishing with 4-1-9-1 to make it through to the final.
In the final, Swardeston CC reached a solid total off 164-8 with Jordan Taylor the main contributor with 48. Hanging Heaton were guided to victory by an unbeaten 88 by Fellows with three balls to spare.
The support was amazing all day from the Swardeston faithful who had travelled over three hours to support the team. Swardeston CC can leave with their heads held high after coming second from over 800 teams. Very proud sponsors indeed.
